This profound, passionate, illuminating and heartrending play explores the memories, dreams and hopes of a deeply troubled woman who arrives at her sister’s apartment in New Orleans, and unknowingly steps into the lion’s den of a new community.

A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams is held up as one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century – and seeing our Acting cohort seize hold of this extraordinary text promises to be a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

Duration: 2 hours 55, including a 15-minute interval

This production features themes of sexual assault, domestic violence, suicide and paedophilia, offensive language, reference to war and a gun shot sound.

This amateur production of “A Streetcar Named Desire” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk. A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE is presented by special arrangement with the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, USA.

Seán Linnen

Director

Seán is a director from Manchester.

He was previously Resident Assistant Director at the Donmar Warehouse and Trainee Artistic Director at Sheffield Theatres and Paines Plough.

Selected directing credits include: The History Boys (Theatre Royal, Bath/UK tour), Quiz (Chichester Festival Theatre/Wessex Grove/Jonathan Church Productions), Nuclear Children (Ladbroke Hall/Roundhouse), Queers (Old Vic).

He has worked extensively as an associate for directors including Nicholas Hytner, Matthew Warchus, Josie Rourke and Polly Findlay, and for theatres including the National Theatre, Old Vic, Bridge Theatre, English Touring Theatre, Edinburgh International Festival, Manchester International Festival, Rose Theatre, Kingston and Park Avenue Armory, New York.

Mandy Gordon

Movement Director

Mandy is a movement director, intimacy coordinator and choreographer based in London.

She works across, stage, screen, opera, mo cap/gaming and animation.

Trained: Safe Sets (Intimacy), Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and London Contemporary Dance School.

Recent credits include: Holiday (Drayton Arms), Barber of Seville (Neville Holt), Beyond the Deepening Shadows (Shaw at the Tower of London), Make Me a King (BFI Flare), Road and Threepenny Opera (both at Guildhall).

Elliott Squire

Costume Designer

Elliott is a Canadian set and costume designer working across theatre, opera, and education.

He is a graduate of Edinburgh’s Scenehouse Programme and he holds a BFA in Theatre Design from the University of British Columbia.

Theatre highlights: Cartas Vivas (Cervantes Theatre/ Madrid transfer) and Midnight: The Musical (The Union Theatre/Seoul transfer).

Opera highlights: La Canterina and The Boatswain’s Mate (Buxton International Festival), Dewi in the Deep (Royal Ballet and Opera), Rip Van Winkle (Gothic Opera), and Candide (Blackheath Halls Opera).
