April/May Graduate News
It may not feel like it now but summer is just around the corner and our graduates show no sign of taking an early holiday, with plenty happening.
We begin our roundup with our Musical Theatre graduates and this month two of our alumni have been going international, with Benjamin Purkiss and Gavin Wilkinson in The Beggar’s Opera at Théâtre Des Bouffes du Nord in Paris. The pair will also be taking the show to the Edinburgh International Festival this summer, so keep an eye out for that. Back in the UK, Andy Coxon and Craig Mather are currently in new musical Pieces of String at the Mercury Theatre Colchester whilst Eleanor Sutton will soon be starring in A Little Night Music/The Crucible at Storyhouse Chester. Touring the UK with Summer Holiday throughout the summer will be Sophie Matthew and at the same time Kaisa Hammarlund will take to the stage at the Young Vic in Tony Award winning Fun Home. Meanwhile, in the West End, Georgia Louise will be joining the cast of Mamma Mia whilst Jonathon Carlton joins the cast of Kinky Boots.
Onto our Acting graduates and we start with the big screen and Disney’s Artemis Fowl. Filming has started on the project and our very own Arian Nik will be playing Kanker, with the release date scheduled for August 2019. Fellow alumna Amy Doyle can currently be seen in UK cinemas in Ghost Stories, in which she plays Esther Goodman. Over in New York, Alexandra Simonet and Lizzie Grace have been performing as part of Brits Off Broadway Season in We Live By The Sea at 59E59 Theatre, which is also directed by Mountview alumnus Alex Howarth. This month has been a good one for Mountview graduates in one-woman shows, with Sarah Milton performing Tumble Tuck at the King’s Head Theatre and Maddie Rice currently touring Fleabag around the UK. Lastly, Holly Hudson is in Absolute Hell at the National Theatre and Theo Ogundipe is set to star in the theatre adaptation of The Girl on the Train at West Yorkshire Playhouse from Mid-May, directed by alumnus Joe Murphy.
In other directing news, Katherine Hare is the current Resident Director on Bat Out of Hell at the Dominion and Gemma Aked-Priestley directs the world premiere of Gracie at Finborough Theatre.
In Theatre Production Arts news, Ella Wheway recently painted the set of Carmen 1808 at Union Theatre and Justin Williams designed the set for Twang!! at the same venue.
