MA Theatre Directing 2022/23

Millie Brolly

Before moving to London, Millie (she/her) lived in Cornwall where most of her work was at The Minack, most recently directing Carl Grose’ Superstition Mountain which then went on to tour last year. Previous to this Millie was Assistant Director on The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Wolves of Willoughby Chase. Millie has performed at the Minack in the roles of Bobby in The Railway Children and Miss Thorne in Goodnight, Mister Tom, a role she later reprised in 2018 with BTA (Southwark Playhouse). Millie also ran two regular youth theatres and worked as a Director on The Minack Acting Academy.

 

Ben Fleming

Ben (he/him) is a director working across theatre, radio and film. He is originally from Manchester, but is now based in London after four years studying History & Politics in Edinburgh. Whilst in Edinburgh, Ben co-founded Three Pound Coin Theatre where he directed several pieces of new queer writing and the radio premier of Stephen Laughton’s Run.

 

Connor Goodwin

Connor (he/him) is a freelance theatre director, curating performance that speaks to working-class communities and challenges traditional notions of theatricality. Whilst currently studying on the MA Theatre Directing course at Mountview, his past work includes Toxic (Altrincham Garrick Playhouse), Cleansed (Manchester School of Theatre) and Olympus ’22 (Manchester School of Theatre). He’s worked with 53two, Burnley Youth Theatre and Oldham Coliseum on creative engagement projects, improving the cultural uptake of vulnerable adults and young people across Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

 

Ben Newman

Ben (he/him) is a theatre director who has lived and worked in the North for most of his life (Merseyside and Sheffield) but is now based in London. A founding member and Artistic Director of the independent company, Belly Up Theatre, his directing credits include, among others: Recipe for a Baby (new writing), Punk Rock, Love and Information, The Pillowman, and a UK tour of Love’s Labour’s Lost (in an assistant role).

 

George Marlin

George (he/him) is a freelance director and theatre-maker, originally from Cambridge and currently based in London. Prior to undertaking his training at Mountview, George completed an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Theatre Studies at the University of Leeds. In Summer 2022, George toured the UK with an original musical that he co-created, titled A Wilde Life, which culminated in a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. George has several years experience in youth theatre and theatre in education and has a strong passion for engaging boys and young men with theatre through his work.

 

Natalya Micic

Natalya (she/her) trained at London School of Dramatic and now works as an actor, director and photographer. Her directing credits include: Theatre – Savage Heart, A Final Act of Friendship, The Loudest Mind, Alternative Therapy, Seen and Not Heard, Chekhovian. Film – Screwdriver and Alright. Her Assistant Director credits include Bare: A Pop Opera, Epic Love and Pop Songs, Katzenmusik, Darknet, and Blink.

 

Tara Noonan

Tara (she/her) is a director and theatre-maker based in South East London. She spent a year at the Birmingham Hippodrome working with the youth company and assisting on in house productions such as the new musical To the Streets. As a student she worked on shows such as Legally Blonde and A Chorus Line, and then went on to assistant direct POPSTARS! at the Birmingham Hippodrome and the National Youth Music Theatre’s production of Ragtime, as well as Head Over Heels and The Winter’s Tale at Mountview. She has been a youth theatre teacher and facilitator for various companies for five years across the UK and Ireland.

 

Grainne Robson

Grainne Robson (she/her) is a director and theatre-maker from Nottingham based in London. She came to London as an actor and comedy writer, having written for comedians and studied comedy improvisation whilst studying Acting at East15 Drama School and Theatre at Goldsmiths University. She co-created her theatre company Salt Circle Productions with writer and performer Cat Addens in 2021, since then she has directed their productions across London fringe venues and produced bi-monthly new writers nights in Camden. grainnerobson.com

 

Elissa Smith

Elissa (she/her) is a Northern Director and Actor from Barnsley, now based in London/Chesterfield. After Studying Acting at the University of Chichester, Elissa moved to London to complete her Masters in Theatre Directing at Mountview. Elissa is passionate about exploring feminist theatre and queer theatre through movement as well as putting northern women at the forefront of her work.
